One of Houston's more subdued efforts, with characteristically eclectic arrangements sprinkled with autoharp, melodica, mandolin, violin, and cello. There's a constant sense of uneasy suspicion, worry, failed romance, and vague dissatisfaction simmering underneath the pleasing modern folk-rock melodies. These elements alone imbue the set with a lot more interest than the average contemporary folk recording. It's not her best album, but it's a typically solid one, with an occasional light (only occasional, and very light) country touch. Still only available in Europe as of 1996.
